Restoration of a listed building in Duisburg, Germany
Conservation and reconstruction of the surfaces of the concrete façade of a listed columbarium, Duisburg, Germany.
The building, constructed in 1971, is characterised by concrete facades with a structure of articulated formwork panels. Extensive restoration work was carried out to repair numerous, including major, damages. This damage was entirely due to the loss of the original concrete substance caused by corroded reinforcing bars. The church is a listed building.

As can be seen in the photo, the rebar is heavily corroded. The resulting increase in volume exerts constant pressure on the concrete until it spalls.
After preparing the excavation site and treating the rebar, the damaged area was reconstructed layer by layer.
